Sean has established himself as a versatile director who flourishes in a wide range of repertoire and styles.

Projects include Susannah with Toledo Opera, Don Giovanni with First Coast Opera, and the Baroque Aria Ensemble at the Manhattan School of Music.  He minored in stage direction at the University of Memphis. At Bowling Green State University, Dr. Cooper mounted successful productions of Le nozze di Figaro, Dido and Aeneas, L’incornazione di Poppea, The Old Maid and the Thief, Savitri, The Telephone, and Pelléas et Mélisande, which was a finalist in the National Opera Association’s annual opera scenes competition.

An avid outreach enthusiast, Cooper served as co-director of the Toledo Opera Summer Camp, and directed H.M.S. Pinafore while functioning as the Operetta Director at the Interlochen Arts Camp. 

Dr. Cooper has performed on Broadway and with numerous regional symphonies and opera houses, giving him a unique perspective on the broader world of musical theater.  He contributes supertitles when directing in a foreign language, and has presented for the Mozart Society of America, College Music Society’s national conference, the Toledo Opera Lecture Series, and has published award-winning articles specific to Mozart scholarship. Sean has also presented as a guest lecturer for the Metropolitan Opera Guild.
